HOW TO UPDATE VIA Wi-Fi
CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE (VIA Wi-Fi)
  • It may take more than 15 minutes to complete the update from the download process.
  • Never power-off your V31 while the download or update is in progress!
    If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the V31 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs.
  • We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
HOW TO UPDATE (VIA Wi-Fi)
  1. Turn on the V31.
  2. When connected to Wi-Fi, a pop-up notification will appear if a new system program is available.
  3. When the pop-up appears, select "OK" and press the [ENTER] button.
    The PROGRAM UPDATE screen will appear, showing the latest version available for download.
  4. Press the [F6] (EXECUTE) button.
    A confirmation screen will appear.
  5. Select "OK" and press the [ENTER] button.
    The system program download will begin.
    Once the download is complete, "Download Completed" will be displayed.
  6. Restart the V31 to begin the update process.
  7. When the update is complete, "Update finished." will be displayed.
  8. Restart the V31 again and confirm that the version has been updated.
 
--- How to Enable Notifications When a System Program is Released ---
If the pop-up notification for the latest system program does not appear when connected to Wi-Fi, please check the following settings:
  1. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select "SYSTEM", then press the [ENTER] button.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to select "INFO", then press the [ENTER] button.
    The SYSTEM INFO - VERSION screen appears.
    * If information other than Program Version is displayed, press the [F1] (VERSION) button.
  4. Check the box for "Pop-up Notification for Updates".
    From the next startup onward, a pop-up notification will appear when a new system program is available via Wi-Fi.

HOW TO UPDATE VIA SD CARD
HOW TO KNOW THE VERSION
The update procedure differs depending on the version currently in use. Before you start, check the system program version of your V31.
  1. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select "SYSTEM", then press the [ENTER] button.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to select "INFO", then press the [ENTER] button.
    The SYSTEM INFO - VERSION screen appears.
  4. Look at the version number ("Program Version").
    * If information other than Program Version is displayed, press the [F1] (VERSION) button.
  5. Press the [KIT] button to return to the DRUM KIT screen.

* If the latest version is shown, no update is necessary.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE UPDATE

  • SD card formatted on the V31
GETTING THE UPDATE FILE
Download v31_sys_v103.zip. The downloaded file is an archive in zip format. After downloading it, expand the file.
After expanding the file, the folder "v31_sys_v103" holding the file "V31_UPA.BIN" will appear.
CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE (VIA SD CARD)
  • Never apply this update data to any product other than the V31. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
  • Never power-off your V31 while the update is in progress!

BACKING UP TO SD CARD
--- Before updating, carry out a data backup. ---
  1. Turn on the V31.
  2. Insert the SD card into the V31's SD card slot.
  3. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  4. Use the cursor buttons to select "BACKUP", then press the [ENTER] button.
  5. Use the cursor buttons to select "SAVE", then press the [ENTER] button.
    The SD CARD SAVE ALL screen appears.
  6. Move the cursor to "With User Samples" and insert a check mark.
  7. Move the cursor to "Backup Number" and choose a backup number for saving the settings.
  8. Press the [F6] (SAVE) button.
  9. Select "OK" and press the [ENTER] button.
    The settings are saved in the SD card.
HOW TO UPDATE (VIA SD CARD)
Creating the Update SD Card
  1. Copy the V31_UPA.BIN file from within the v31_sys_v103 folder to the root directory on the [V31 formatted] SD card.
    * Don't simply copy the "v31_sys_v103" folder itself.
  2. Disconnect the SD card from your computer as follows.
    [Windows]
    Use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows task tray to un-mount the SD card. And then disconnect the SD card from your computer.
    [Mac]
    Drag the Drive icon of the SD card into the trash in the dock. And then remove the SD card from your computer.
 
Update Procedure
  1. Insert the SD card into the V31's SD card slot.
  2. Hold down the [?] button and turn on the V31.
    * Keep holding down the [?] button until "PROGRAM UPDATER" appears on display.
    The update starts automatically.
  3. "Update finished." appears in the display when the update process is complete.
  4. Turn off the power and then eject the SD card from the V31.
  5. Turn on the V31 and confirm it has been updated to the latest version.
RESTORING THE FACTORY SETTINGS
  1. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  2. Use the cursor buttons to select "SYSTEM", then press the [ENTER] button.
  3. Use the cursor buttons to select "FACTORY RESET", then press the [ENTER] button.
    FACTORY RESET screen appears.
  4. Move the cursor to "Reset with User Samples" and insert a check mark.
  5. Move the cursor to "Reset with Expansion Slots" and insert a check mark.
  6. Press the [F6] (EXECUTE) button.
  7. Select "OK" and press the [ENTER] button.
    The "Factory Reset" operation will be executed.
LOADING BACKUP DATA FROM SD CARD
  1. Turn on the V31.
  2. Insert the SD card into the V31's SD card slot.
  3. Press the [MENU] button.
    The MENU screen appears.
  4. Use the cursor buttons to select "BACKUP", then press the [ENTER] button.
  5. Use the cursor buttons to select "LOAD", then press the [ENTER] button.
    The SD CARD LOAD ALL screen appears.
  6. Move the cursor to "With User Samples" and insert a check mark.
  7. Move the cursor to "With Expansion Slots" and insert a check mark.
  8. Move the cursor to "Backup Number" and choose the backup number for importing the settings.
  9. Press the [F6] (LOAD) button.
  10. Select "OK" and press the [ENTER] button.
    The backup data is loaded from the SD card.
