SP-404MKII System Program (Ver.5.00)
HOW TO TELL THE VERSION
Please check the version of the system working on your SP-404MKII before downloading the archive file.
- Hold down [ SHIFT ] and tap the pad [ 13 ].
The "UTILITY MENU" screen appears. - Turn the [ VALUE ] (PUSH ENTER) knob to select "SYSTEM", then press the [ VALUE ] knob.
- Turn the [ CTRL 3 ] knob all the way clockwise.
The version information is displayed on the screen. - Press [ EXIT ] to go back to the initial screen.

- When resampling, you can now select a Sound Generator to trigger resampling. (The Sound Generator is now accessible when resampling begins.)

- SKIP BACK SAMPLING can now be used in DJ MODE (PAD Mode).
- The SP-404MKII startup screen has been changed.

- The unit restarts when you perform certain operations in DJ MODE.
- In LOOPER, when you record a PATTERN SEQUENCER to LOOPER, the sound does not record correctly under certain conditions.

- Crash when importing a sample with a filename longer than 80 characters.
- Crash occurs under certain conditions when importing samples from an SD card in DJ Mode.
- When "Type:Noise2" is selected in Sound Generator, Level does not work properly.
- The USB Audio Level Meter is displayed with L/R reversed.
- The peak indicator function of the [EXT SOURCE] button does not work properly under certain conditions.
- When recording an empty pad to the sequencer, the Note Off is not recorded correctly.
- In the MUTE GROUP setting, pressing a pad that is playing in PAD MODE stops the sound.

- Crashes when Sampling/Resampling is performed after importing a Sample (IMPORT SAMPLE).
- When exporting a Project, all folder names become "PROJECT1".
- MULTIPAD EXPORT may not export the selected pattern.
- While recording with LOOPER, recording cannot be stopped in Chromatic Mode.
- The Melodics app does not work properly when "MIDI Sync Out:ON" is set.
- END SNAP does not work in Ver.4.04.

- Roll settings (triplets) are not displayed correctly.
- Overwriting the SP-404MK2 pattern from the SP-404MKII App corrupts the pattern data.
- If you delete all tracks in your DAW while the SP-404MKII App's VST plug-in is running, the SP-404MKII App crashes.

- Added "LOOPER" for overlapping samples.
- Added "GROOVE" to add rhythmic characteristics to samples.
- Added "MULTIPAD EXPORT" which converts phrases recorded in patterns into audio for each Pad.
- Added the ability to bounce Pattern Chains (convert them to samples).
- "Koala Sampler" can now be operated from SP-404MK2.

- Added "MULTIPAD EXPORT" which converts phrases recorded in patterns into audio for each Pad.
- You can now export Samples and Patterns to your PC (DAW, etc.) using drag and drop.
- Project files can now be edited offline even when SP-404MK2 is not connected.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR SP-404MKII
- SP-404MKII
- An SD card
- A personal computer with a SD Card Reader/Writer.
CAUTION WHEN PERFORMING THE UPDATE
- Never apply this update data to any product other than the SP-404MKII. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- Never power-off your SP-404MKII while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the SP-404MKII won't be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs. - We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
GETTING THE UPDATE FILE
Please open/extract the downloaded "sp404mk2_sys_v500.zip" file on your computer to get the "sp404mk2_sys_v500" folder.

PROCEDURE FOR THE UPDATE
- Format an SD card as described in "Formatting an SD Card" of "SP-404MKII Quick Start".
- Copy the update files (SP404MKII_APP0.bin, SP404MKII_APP1.bin) to the root folder of the SD card described above using a personal computer.
- Insert the SD card described above into the SD card slot on the unit.
- Hold down [ SHIFT ] and turn on the power.
[ UPDATE SURE? ] is displayed on the screen. - Press the [ VALUE ] (PUSH ENTER) knob.
The update starts.
* Never turn off the power while the update is in progress.
When [ UPDATE COMPLETE! ] appears, the update has finished. - Turn the SP-404MKII power off and remove the SD card from the SP-404MKII.
- Please verify the version number "4.04" with the procedure described in "HOW TO TELL THE VERSION" part of this document.
- Hold down the [ SHIFT ] button and press the pad [ 13 ].
The UTILITY MENU screen appears. - Use the [ VALUE ] (PUSH ENTER) knob to select "FACTORY", and press the [ VALUE ] knob.
The UTILITY / FACTORY RESET screen appears. - Turn the [ VALUE ] (PUSH ENTER) knob to select the "SYSTEM DATA", and press the [ VALUE ] knob to confirm.
A confirmation message appears, asking if you want to initialize the data. - If you wish to initialize, turn the [ VALUE ] (PUSH ENTER) knob to select "OK", and press the [ VALUE ] knob.
The message "Please Power OFF" appears. - Turn this unit's power off, and then on again.
