How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your PD-14DSX before downloading the archive file.
If You're Using a TD-50X
If You're Using a TD-27 or TD-50
If You're Using a TD-50X
- Connect the DIGITAL TRIGGER OUT connector on the PD-14DSX to the DIGITAL TRIGGER IN connector on the TD-50 or TD-50X with a connection cable.
- Press [SETUP] to invoke the setup screen.
- Use the PAGE [UP] and [DOWN] buttons to access the page where the INFO icon is located (SETUP MENU 2).
- Press the [F3] button to select the INFO icon.
- Press the [F4] (DIGITAL) button.
- The current version of the PD-14DSX appears.
If "1.03" or higher is displayed, you do not need to update your product. - Press the [KIT] button to return to the DRUM KIT screen.
* A PD-14DSX is not supported if a TD-50X version is earlier than Ver.1.20.
Please refer to the "TD-50X System Program ( Ver.1.20 )" for a TD-50X version update.
If You're Using a TD-27 or TD-50
- PD-14DSX is not supported.

What you will need to update your PD-14DSX
- PD-14DSX
- Connection cable
- A personal computer which can run the following SMF players ("UpdSMF")
- UpdSMF (SMF Player for Windows)
- UpdSMF (SMF Player for macOS 10.13–macOS 14.x)
- UpdSMF (SMF Player for macOS/OS X)
Caution when performing the update
- As long as you follow the procedure, no error occurs during the update with this program. If you fail the update, you can perform the update again.
- Do not disconnect the cable while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the PD-14DSX won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs. - We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
Getting the update file
Download the file named "pd14dsx_sys_v103.zip".
The downloaded file is an archive in zip format. After downloading it, expand the file.
After expanding the file, the folder "pd14dsx_sys_v103" holding the file "pd14dsx_sys_v103.MID" will appear.

Procedure for the update
Follow the procedure below to install the unarchived system program onto the PD-14DSX.
* Do not disconnect the cable while the update operation is in progress.

- Insert the plug of the connection cable into the PD-14DSX’s DIGITAL TRIGGER OUT connector.
- Hold down the [Strainer Knob] on the PD-14DSX and insert the plug of the cable into your computer's USB port.
Strainer Indicator on PD-14DSX flashes. - On the computer, run UpdSMF.
- Set MIDI Out Device to the connected V***_PD-14DSX.
* The current version of the PD-14DSX is displayed in the "***" portion. - Click [Path] (click [Select...] for Mac) on "UpdSMF" and specify the location where the update file (pd14dsx_sys_v103.MID) is from SMF Path (SMF Folder for Mac). Then, click the [OK] button.
- Click [Scan SMF] (unnecessary for Mac) to check that the update file (pd14dsx_sys_v103.MID) is displayed in the file list.
- Click Send.
Sending of the update program starts. - When the Strainer Indicator on the PD-14DSX changes from flashing to steadily lighted, the update is finished.
- In UpdSMF, click [OK] in the "Send SMF/Complete" dialog box ("Complete Update" on a Mac).
- In UpdSMF, click [Exit] ([Quit] on the Mac) to quit UpdSMF.
- Disconnect the cable from your computer.
- Check to make sure the version has been updated.
